Description

The clubhouse was dedicated in December 1913 to serve as an inspiration for members, “to live in the upper realm of thought, feeling and faculty”. During the 19th century, women in America became prolific builders of vital community institutions. Denied access to major institutions by which society governed itself and created its culture, women used voluntary associations to redefine a woman’s place and help build their communities. The Coterie Club was established on October 22, 1890 and disbanded in 2009. Throughout more than 100 years of existence, 698 women of Paw Paw were members. On September 6, 1980 the clubhouse was sold to the Southwest Michigan Library Cooperative due to increasing costs for maintenance. 200 South Kalamazoo Street.
